Affinity Photo has a great feature for manual versioning. With snapshots, you can capture a given state of your document at any point and save it for later.

Coming from Adobe Photoshop, you might find this feature comparable to layer comps. Think of it as saving a given state of your document to show either the history of your work or different concepts of photo edits and/or designs.
